Towing a trailer
A growing number of Canadians take trailer vacations.
Others haul a boat or extra load on their vacation.
Don't forget...
- Driving a heavily loaded car or towing a trailer means you need more space to stop or pass.
- Leave plenty of distance between yourself and the vehicle ahead.
- Before you tow a trailer or haul a load, make sure your vehicle is properly equipped for the job.
- Check that your rear view mirrors give a clear view of the road behind.
- Going slower than the flow of traffic? Be courteous and pull over where possible to let faster vehicles pass.
- You may need extra insurance for your trailer.
Avoid distractions
- Avoid intense, complicated or emotional conversations when driving.
- Adjust your seat, climate, and other devices before leaving.
- Ask your passengers to help navigate or adjust controls.
- If you feel sleepy, find a safe place to pull over and rest.
- Turn off your cellphone or pull over if you must take a call.
- Stop to eat or drink.
- Read maps, and check traffic and exits before you leave so you're prepared.
