Travel prepared - because nothing spoils a vacation faster than lost or stolen luggage

We've all heard horror stories about lost luggage and ruined vacations. Checking luggage doesn't have to be a stressful experience. Here are a few tips to help you make smart decisions when it comes to your luggage:

  • Keep a list of all items packed in checked luggage with you at all times
  • Always carry valuables and important documents in your carry-on luggage. This includes: money, traveller's cheques, credit card, your driver's license, jewellery, keys, medications and cameras
  •  Make sure you remove all old baggage destination tags from your luggage
  • Your name, telephone number and address should be clearly marked both inside and outside of each bag

If your luggage is lost, call the airline daily for an update. After 5 days, you should file a claim based on the assumption your bags are lost.

When filing a claim:

  • Itemize the contents of your bag(s) along with their estimated value
  • Attach copies of any receipts you may have
  • Include a copy of your plane ticket and baggage claim checks
